MEDIA KIT

Over the years I have had the honor to work with artists on their marketing materials. Most often I’ve created Media Kits. This is a very effective way of presenting you and your artwork to publications, galleries, collectors, and other connections. As an artist and business owner, you are your own best representative. This means an important component of your artistic practice is marketing. Self-promotion makes many of us squirm a bit; but if your path is mapped, it’s an easier one to travel. An effective marketing plan may include a media or press kit, a portfolio or an exhibit catalog promoting a specific event.

A media kit can take on different forms, it can be a printed piece or a link on your website, or both. Think of it as a visual CV, a concise overview in an easily accessible format that tells your story that can be used for gaining exposure and publicity. Keep in mind, while the name “media kit” implies that you will be targeting publications, galleries, movie studios, or fresh representation with this material.

this is also an effective tool to share with potential buyers, galleries and collectors. You might choose to produce similar material for a special event. While that can be an effective marketing tool during the exhibit, it will also serve afterwards to secure future shows.

The good news is, you probably have all the pieces and parts you need already. It’s just a matter of melding the information into a concise presentation that can be delivered into the hands of people who can help move your career to the next level.

Your media kit should contain your CV with background, education, awards and reviews, as well as your artist statement and bio. You may also want to include excerpts from articles or reviews, awards and testimonials. Where possible, explain your process and highlight your specialties. You can also promote specific events or workshops you offer.

With online printing becoming ever more accessible and cost effective, I highly recommend this information be compiled into a printed booklet. The physical piece will leave an impression on anyone you meet and is less likely to be discarded and forgotten than an email or a business card.

Here are the details…

Introduction: We start with interview where I can find out a bit more about your artistic practice. I will work with you to determine the scope and focus of your media kit, identify content, and plan size and page count
Then, I will provide a word document where you can share your information and develop a list of assets that will be needed (images, links, etc) based on your individual goals for the piece.

Design development and layout: I will create a custom cover and sample page design for your review and approval before production begins.

Production: I will design the layout of all pages in your piece and send a pdf for your review. We can work together to get it perfect, fee includes up to three rounds of revisions/edits to the project.
Approvals and edits at each stage should be submitted in writing by email. (I will run a spell check, but you will be responsible for all final copy editing and proofing)

Once design is finalized, I provide a suite of files for various uses. (see “File Delivery” below)

RATES:

Design and layout fees: $250 for overall design and branding, plus $25 per page.

(ie: 8 page PDF is $450 total, 16 page PDF is $650)

This includes a custom branded design and delivery of final files in various formats.

(PDFs: high res for printing, low res for posting)

FILE DELIVERY:

Final files will be delivered as high-resolution pdf suitable for printing and low-resolution pdf for online posting.

Any project changes or additions beyond this scope of work or after final files have been approved and delivered, will be billed separately as an addendum to this proposal estimate.

DEMO REEL

A demo reel is a short series of clips that showcase one's acting ability. Demo reels, (also called show reels ,sizzle reels, or video reels) usually last about 1-3 minutes and give a casting director a sense of whether you'd be right or wrong for a part.

Your reel should include only the best of the best clips you have. Be sure to put your most impressive clips first since many casting directors turn off reels after just 30-40 seconds.

Very experienced actors will often have multiple reels (comedic, dramatic, commercial, etc.), but for newer actors, it's best to include a range of clips (comedic, serious, etc.) all in one reel. Try to show yourself in different situations experiencing different types of emotions, such as anger, sadness, etc. A wider emotional range shows casting directors that you're experienced and good at acting on camera.

My goal is to make the entire process as easy as possible for you. Most reels take less than a week to complete, from start to finish.

RATES:

Editing fees: $80 per hour with a two hour minimum you must provide a direct link to all footage via wetransfer

* the more complex the edits are, the more time is required, ie. an average 3 minute reel that has multiple clips and transitions takes

a minimum of 5 hours of pure editing time.

FEE SCHEDULE:

A 50% non-refundable deposit is required to begin work.

Introduction: We start with interview where I can find out a bit more about your reel goals. I will work with you to determine the scope and focus of your reel identify content, and plan .
Then, I will provide a word document where you can share your information and develop a list of assets that will be needed (images, links, etc) based on your individual goals for the piece.

Design development and layout: I will create a custom reel, and the magic  begins.

GATHERING YOUR FOOTAGE

Please gather all of your footage before you request your edit. You MUST provide us with .mp4 or .mov files for all of your material. We recommend sending us the highest quality version of your footage that you can. If you need to download a video from YouTube, please use a converter like this one: https://yt1s.com/youtube-to-mp4. If you need to convert a file that is not .mp4 or .mov, we recommend that you use VLC (it’s free!). We are not able to source footage for you or pull footage from DVDs.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR YOUR EDIT:

The more details you can provide for your edit, the faster (and cheaper!) it will be.

It is particularly helpful if you can provide us with timecodes and the order in which you would like your clips. For example:

1: NCIS, start at 00:41 and end at 01:23
2: Horror short, 02:33-02:55 & 03:01-03:41
3. Supergirl, 00:04-00:45

If you’re not sure exactly what you want to use, or the order it should go in, that’s okay too! Our editor can make decisions for you based on current industry standards and preferences. You will have the ability to approve your reel and make additional changes if you wish. Once you go over an hour of editing time, your final products will be watermarked. Watermarks will be removed once we receive payment for your additional balance.

the editing process is dictated in the best way that will feature you, and we make decisions for you based on current industry standards and preferences. You will have the ability to approve your reel and make additional changes if you wish. Once you go over the two hour of editing time, your final products will be watermarked. Watermarks will be removed once we receive payment for your additional balance.
